Once upon a time, a boy received a gift of 25 tin soldiers. As he arranged them on his bedside table, he noticed that one of them stood on a single leg. It was the last soldier cast, and there hadn’t been enough tin to complete it.
This is how Hans Christian Andersen’s The Steadfast Tin Soldier begins – his first original tale, a story filled with deep insights that continue to resonate to this day. It’s a story that serves as a constant source of inspiration for us.
In 2018, at Midburn, the Israeli regional Burning Man event, we decided to bring this tale to life. As members of Camp Baobab, we embarked on an extraordinary project: building massive sculptures of the Tin Soldier and the spinning ballerina, each towering 45 feet high. This ambitious undertaking required months of planning and hard work, followed by transporting and assembling the sculptures on a hilltop weeks before the event began.

This experience – creating together and overcoming challenges – was where our shared journey began. In the harsh conditions of the desert, we discovered the power of community, creativity, and mutual support. At Midburn, there are no ready – made answers. The belief that “The playa will provide” teaches us that with the right mindset, the right people, and a deep commitment to the goal, any obstacle can be overcome.
From this experience grew a strong friendship and eventually a business partnership. The values of shared growth, belief in our potential, and the pursuit of exceptional success have become the guiding principles of our company.

In Andersen’s story, the Tin Soldier made choices based on what he perceived as his limitations. Believing his missing leg made him flawed, he thought he was only worthy of someone equally “incomplete” – the ballerina who seemed to stand on one leg.
Through the sculptures we created, we told a different story: What if we chose our paths based on our strengths, rather than the shortcomings we attribute to ourselves?
